Have a little double bill of Baxinger, with an extra sprinkling of SPACE POLITICS.
Layzner’s probably not gonna be quite out for Christmas due to one of the QCers being overworked, but it there should be a double bill for new year, or at least the end of the 12 days of Christmas.
TL notes after the break, I may have gotten slightly carried away on the Japanese wiki article for the show.
TL notes for this episode:
If you know your Japanese history then House Arwin, head of the Bakouf, is not an allusion that you’ll miss. For those of you that don’t already know, they’re a reference to the Tokugawa Clan who ruled the Bakufu/Edo Shogunate. The head of it, Arwin XIV, is a reference to the 14th Tokugawa Shogun Tokugawa Iemochi, who was the first Shogun in 230 years to have visited Kyoto, which is what planet Kyolark is a reference to. By extension House Gosho are a reference to the Imperial family.
The army guy Carmo Ducks, is a reference to Serizawa Kamo, whose name ‘Kamo’, means ‘duck’. His superior Erun Byst is based on Kiyokawa Hachiro
Gil Claude (the Shiranui guy), is an interesting case. He’s based on the original character Shichiri Kennosuke from the novel Moeyo Ken, which dramatises the life of Shinsengumi member Hijikata Toshizo.
Key Maron iss also based on someone but I’ll bring that up when he gets more background info in a few episodes.
